After all this time…

Saturday, for some reason, the man mentions to me that his favorite thing to eat is lasagna. I just stared at him.

“What are you talking about? You’ve told me you liked it, but you’ve never said it was your favorite thing ever!”

He confirmed that it was indeed his favorite thing to eat, and always had been. You never know what you might learn, even after 30 + years.

Fall Photo Shoot

I’m still trying to learn how to use my new camera. Every now and then, I’ll head out to take some pictures and today was such a beautiful fall day, I thought it would be perfect.

I was trying to find an out of the way spot where I wouldn’t run into any people, just pretty fall foliage. I found a lane at a nearby lake, and turned in. It looked promising.

Until I saw this sign:

public hunting

Acckkk! I had noticed a truck or two parked by the road when I turned in, but hadn’t thought about why they were there. I’m guessing it’s bow and arrow season for something. I sent Dennis a text asking him what hunting season it is, and true to form, he answered, “I don’t know, beer season?”

Obviously, our family doesn’t hunt.

I decided I would take pictures elsewhere.

Devils Kitchen State Park

I didn’t have to worry. A short drive away was Devil’s Kitchen State Park.

Little Grassy Lake

Then I continued on to Little Grassy Lake.

Giant City State Park

I finally ended my photo trek at Giant City State Park, which has a great hiking trail with fall foliage and huge sandstone boulders.

It was a great day to be outside.

In a nutshell

Sick grandson. Sick daughter. Sick me. Sick husband. Work, work, work.

That pretty much sums up my life the past few weeks.

Thinking of my sister on Wednesday, who is having back surgery.

Wow. Just wow.

Festivals!

With fall come festivals. We’ve taken advantage of our wonderful weather lately, and entertained ourselves with the Popeye Picnic last Sunday and the Apple Festival which began last night!

The Popeye Picnic celebrates who else? Popeye, of course, the spinach eating sailor, whose creator came from the small town of Chester, Illinois, where the festival resides. The town has several statues placed around town to commemorate the various cartoon characters. Squirt found himself asking Wimpy if he could have that hamburger and pay for it on Tuesday.

He even got himself in the local newspaper!

Because our area calls itself “Little Egypt”, there was someone there doing a sand sculpture with the theme, “Popeye in the land of Little Egypt”. They were doing a wonderful job!

Squirt was very happy to find that there were some inflatable “rides” that he could have fun on, and WE were very happy to find that they were FREE!
Up he goes!

Oooof!

No, it didn’t hurt.

We asked Squirt if he wanted any spinach after all this Popeye business, but he said he would settle for ice cream. He did try for the Popeye squint, though.
No spinach for me!
